Child Custody and Visitation Mediation and Parenting Mediation Services

Mediation can be a cost-effective alternative to litigation that promotes better communication and collaboration between parents.

Custody and Visitation Mediation

Also referred to as a parenting plan, custody and visitation mediation is an alternative to litigating parenting rights in traditional court proceedings. It is designed to help divorced, divorcing, or unmarried parents and guardians reach an agreement regarding the legal and physical custody and care of their child. Custody mediation is most successful when both parents are willing to work together, even if they are currently struggling with effective communication. During this process, a trained, neutral mediator will work with families to develop a parenting plan that is mutually agreeable and tailored to address the specific needs of each family, as well as facilitate better communication between parents about all issues concerning their child.  Once an agreement is reached, the mediator can draft a custody and visitation agreement to be filed with the court

Parenting Mediation

Parenting Mediation is used on a short-term basis to navigate specific parenting challenges and issues, such as establishing consistent household rules and expectations. During these sessions, a neutral third-party mediator helps facilitate productive conversations concerning new or evolving parenting needs and decisions. This can be especially useful when divorced or separated parents need to work together to navigate the changing needs and challenges associated with parenting adolescents and teens.
